Born at Leiden, Netherlands. Arrived at New Amsterdam with Johan de Hunter on ‘Graft’ ship in 1653. Proceeded to Fort Orange/Albany. Purchased brickyard that he was working for from Adriaan van Ilpendam in 1668. Alias Piet Bout/Bont/Quackenbos/ch.

Appointed petty constable for the Bowery district for the year 29 Sep 1700/1701. Purchased 45 acres of land from Samuel Congo (free black man) with Teunis de Key at current-day Union Square.

Apprenticed tailor with cousin James Quackenbush in Dundas. Enlisted in US Civil War at Aubrun, NY (near Fayetteville) in 1863. Settled at Warkworth.

Tailor from Warkworth. Remarried after death of Hannah to Sarah Emily Gerow. Homesteaded near Matheson in Cochrane District, Ontario. Retired to farm in Calton/Aylmer, Elgin County, Ontario. Buried at Aylmer Cemetery.

Calvin James Quackenbush

Born at Castleton, Ontario. Served in 87th Battalion World War 1. Returned from War and resided in Matheson, Ontario before moving to Montreal with wife and son Jim. Employed by CNR. His nickname was Charlie.

Bridget Mary Gallagher

Parents were Thomas Gallagher & Margaret Calpin, who were Irish famine migrants from Castleconnor, Co. Sligo, Ireland to York, England. Father served in British Military in India. History of time in York Castle & Wakefield Prison. Bridget was ordered to an Industrial School by the NSPCC. Her brother died in Vermont. Married Calvin in St George’s Church, York in 1918. Had previously been in Quebec, Canada at the time when her brother died in 1915.
